The pass-on scheme is an important part of HPP China’s Farmer’s Club project and sustainable farming policy. In the pass-on scheme, the farmers or useholds either pay a certain percentage by themselves or directly receive a young animal to raise from the project. After its successful breeding, each household has to pass on one offspring to another household which can then join the project. This unique scheme will be passed on from generation to generation, creating a self-sustainable cycle which will increasingly benefit farmers economically.

Our goats breeding activity in Fengdu will also follow this pass-on scheme –There are 66 farmer families who have received goats as part of the grant pass on program and are continuously supported by local farmers’ instructors during the whole breeding process.  The first baby goats were born in March – now there are a total of 18 kids. In June and July the goats will be ready to be passed on to approximately 50 new beneficiaries.

The goat species introduced by our project, the Boer goat, has a strong immune system, produces more meat, reproduces much faster and adapts easily to new environments. The survival rate of the Boer goat is as high as 91% compared to 50% of the black goat which is the traditional goat species raised in the region. According to our estimations, approximately 105 new households will benefit from this micro-financing program over two years.
