Xueshan Primary School of Longxin Township, Longling County, Baoshan City is located at the foot of the big snow mountain with the altitude over 2, 000 meters. There are around 3,000 villagers in that village. They are simple and honest. They get up at sunrise and have a rest at sunset. 

On a day in September, 2018, Xueshan Primary School moved from the old school area to a newly built campus. From that day on, our children were “independent”. 85 children, three preschool classes and 3 teachers. 

The changes inside the class 

After winter holiday, children went back to preschool. Significant changes had occurred. The color of the external wall had changed and it was wearing blue new clothes. Brand new floor tiles were paved, LCD TV was installed and the light in the classroom was changed to LED which could be adjusted, controlled and did not hurt eyes. There were several new bookshelves at the corner of the classroom and all kinds of picture books, pigments, cards, building blocks and snowflakes were put on the shelves. There were also a new slide and balance beam, hula-hoop, and balls of different colors on the playground. Children were so fond of all these toys and they were very happy to see these. Thanks to the funding provided by China Charities Aid Foundation for Children who made these changes possible. 

Teaching of multiple outdoor games

Now children played more happily during outdoor game time. Some liked playing soccer, some liked hola-hoop, some liked the balance beam and some liked the slides. Teachers could enrich the course contents by using these teaching tools and toys. Not only was the preschool environment changed, but we also participated in semester trainings and monthly trainings for teachers. From these trainings, we learned much knowledge about education of preschool children. We would apply the knowledge we learned to the teaching in the future and provide children with higher quality education. 

Project introduction: 

Longling Xueshan Preschool of the Future is funded by China Charities Aid Foundation for Children. Human People to People Yunnan Office and Longling County Poverty Alleviation Office jointly implement and manage the project. Community preschool education project aims to help poor children to get rid of poverty. The model is: 1. open preschools in the natural villages of remote poor areas and renovate old rooms to be the classroom. 2. recruit and train local villagers as preschool teachers and establish parents’ committees. The course contents do not only include traditional subjects, but also nature, animals, nutrition and hygiene related knowledge, as well as ways of expressing oneself through art and music. The children are normally 3-6 years old. The preschool education fully prepares children for studying in the primary school.
