The matching fund from Fengdu Poverty Alleviation Office for the walnut trees project came through in mid-February 2014 and farmers and project staff went to purchase the walnut seedlings together in March 2014.

In early February the project team made big posters which provide information on walnut tree planting and posted them at areas visible to walnut tree farmers. Farmers can read the
posters and learn how to improve the survival rate of the walnut seedlings.

On March 2014, the project team went to a walnut seedlings garden in Mianyang, Sichuan province, and purchased the seedlings. The village committees directly signed the walnut seedlings
purchase contract with the supplier. In total, 69,500 improved walnut seedlings were purchased and distributed in Baiguoyuan village and Honghuapo village. The planting area for the trees is 1,200 Mu and 300 households with 1,000 people will benefit from the walnut tree planting project.

On the second day after the walnut seedlings were distributed HPP invited a technician to come to the villages and give on-site trainings to farmers about walnut tree planting to help
improve the survival rate of the seedlings.
