Shanghai based Huang Yicong Charity Foundation - after visiting HPP Yunnan Zhenkang Preschool of the Future Project from March 11 to March 13, 2014 - agreed to implement a “Preschool of the Future Project” in Pu’er City of Yunnan Province. In 2015 the project site was finally decided to be Wengake Town, Mengka Town, Ximeng County, Yunnan Province. The project benefits 204, 3-6 year old local children, their parents and 10 local recruited teachers. The project is done in cooperation with Yunnan Chinese Entrepreneurs Commonweal Foundation and with technical assistance of HPP China.

Little Sun Preschool of the Future Project aims to prevent poor children from becoming poor adults. It is a non-profit education project with long term roots in the community. The purpose is to provide fair education for the poor minority children, bridge the gap between possibilities in different geographic location and eliminate poverty to be passed on through generations. The method is early childhood education for the vulnerable children in impoverished areas. The project also emphasizes children’s health and nutrition issues. It provides nutritional breakfast to children and helps to develop children’s good hygiene habits in the preschool. Project sustainability is to develop community capacity, including capacity building of local preschool teachers and villagers to participate in the community issues. The project liberates community women. It helps women who have preschool children to have more time and energy to participate in income generating activities for the family, so that poverty can be reduced.

In April 2016 Yunnan Chinese Entrepreneurs Commonweal Foundation visited POF (Preschool Of the Future) Ximeng. They were hosted by the POF Ximeng Project Team. The main purpose of the visit was to meet with the parents of the preschool- children, teachers and staff from Humana People to People to hear more about the progress of the project and to discuss and find solutions to any problems. They were interested in knowing if payment for school fees and food was affordable for the parents - or if there were parents who were facing challenges when it came to making payments. The response was that so far all the parents were making payments accordingly to agreement. The same was asked regarding the teachers payments and the teachers answered that they were satisfied. A question was raised regarding participation of parents committees and parents in the school activities. The teachers explained that most parents are active and they participate actively in the children’ education and are interested in their wellbeing. Together with the project staff the visitors visited two preschools to look at how they were organized and managed. They also checked the students’ attendance registration forms and the students’ textbooks bought from the project funds. Furthermore they observed a dance lesson presented by teacher Chen. From there they visited the kitchen where food for the children is cooked, and the place where the children eat their food. The visitors also had an opportunity to talk to some of the parents committees to understand more about their duties. After the visit they went to the project office where they made a conclusion of the meeting, pointing out their observations. They were impressed by how teachers and parents were dedicated to the running of the preschools and happy to see the cooperation between the HPP staff, teachers and parents. They also approved the teaching materials which had been bought for the students. All in all they concluded that the preschools were managed in a good way.
