The HPP Chongqing Rural Livelihoods Climate Adaptation Project, supported by the Harmony Community Foundation and the Yunnan Synetics Partnership for Civic Organizational Development, is based on the Climate Risk Assessment Guidelinesproduced by the Yunnan Synetics Partnership for Civic Organizational Development, and the HPP project staff has finally decided to set up a pilot project in Qinggangya Village, Fengdu County, Chongqing. As a new pilot, the project aims to find a way to mitigate the impacts of climate change on the villagers' agriculture through hardware support (water tanks + fog nets) and training.

During the meeting in Qinggangya Village, the village secretary expressed his gratitude to the sponsor for the support and reported that the project has helped local villagers to solve the water problem to a certain extent, and the training has also helped the villagers to have certain knowledge and experience in coping with climate change. Shen Dingfang also put forward some suggestions to the village secretary regarding the abandoned irrigation cisterns in the village.

After the meeting, the team visited the water storage barrels and experimental fog nets prepared by the project staff for the villagers. Since the project was launched four months ago, the project staff has set up water storage barrels for local villagers to store rainwater and use it for their agricultural livelihood; based on the local topography, climate and wind speed, the project staff has made experimental fog nets, which can store a certain amount of water in the winter season and provide local villagers with an example of water storage; at the same time, the project staff has conducted climate change training for the local villagers to enhance their ability to cope with climate change and popularize more knowledge about climate change, so that people can better protect themselves under the influence of climate change. At the same time, the project staff also conducted climate change training for local villagers to enhance their ability to cope with climate change, popularize more knowledge about climate change, and enable people to better protect themselves under the impact of climate change.

Shen Dingfang recognized and supported the activities and effectiveness of the water storage barrels and the experimental fog net, and indicated that the pilot project would be included in the Case Compendiumhandbook produced by his team for reference to other public welfare actors who are concerned about climate change.

At the end of the visit, Shen Dingfang and the project staff agreed that the Chongqing Rural Livelihoods Climate Adaptation Project, as a pilot project, has shown some results in solving some of the villagers' water problems and popularizing the knowledge of climate change, and expressed that they would continue to explore more implementable projects in the field of climate change and continue to work together.

Climate change is a problem that needs to be faced by the public together, and on the road to finding solutions to climate change, we hope to make a small contribution to the issue of climate change together with more like-minded people and organizations.

Project Description:

The Chongqing Rural Livelihoods Climate Adaptation Project is jointly supported by the Harmony Community Foundation and Yunnan Synetics partnership for Civic Organization Development. The project aims to help local villagers improve their ability to cope with climate change by teaching them how to cope with climate change impacts and adaptation methods, organising training related to climate change adaptation, adding or optimising climate change adaptation measures, and conducting exploratory experiments on climate change adaptation.
