On September 27, 2021, the official launch of the European Union-Humana People to People Yunnan Low-carbon Schools Pilot Project of Anning City was held in Anning City Education and Sports Bureau. Representatives of the following parties - about 40 people in total - attended the meeting: Basic Education Department and Basic Education Development Center of Anning City Education and Sports Bureau, the International Humana People to People Movement (Switzerland) Yunnan Representative Office (HPP YNRO), and 26 primary and secondary schools (kindergartens) in Anning City.

In order to enhance the understanding of the EU HPP Low Carbon School Pilot Project, Liu Xi, Director of the EU HPP Low Carbon School Pilot Project, introduced that the project team has been carrying out various activities, trainings and meetings to promote the establishment of low carbon schools in Yunnan Province. Also, the team built a platform for further cooperation and exchange between schools to improve the awareness of climate change of teachers and students, and using scientific and technological means to support the implementation of carbon emission reduction in schools.

Project officer Qi Chao shared a demonstration lessons of the lower and higher grades through heuristic interaction including the introduction of the definition of garbage, the harm of garbage to the earth, and the importance of garbage classification. Also, he taught us how to sort the waste correctly through interactive games. The lower grade demonstration course is based on the interest of the higher grade demonstration course, combined with the professional science newspaper, to popularize climate change knowledge and guide students to think in combination with current events.

The work conference was successfully held in Anning City to promote the cooperation between the European Union-Humana People to People Yunnan Low-carbon Schools Pilot Project and various local schools, so as to build a green and low-carbon campus and help achieve the "3060" goal.
Project introduction:
Yunnan Low-carbon Schools Pilot Project is funded by the European Union and implemented by the People to People Foundation (Spanish member of HPP) in cooperation with FAIHPP (Switzerland) Yunnan Representative Office, Yunnan Academy for Science and Technical Information, Southwest Forestry University, Chinese Youth Climate Action Network, Green Kunming (Kunming Environmental Popular Science Association) and Kunming Good Deed Public Welfare Community Development Service Center with a project cycle from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2023. The project begins by increasing partners’ awareness and advocacy on climate change mitigation and environmental protection, by raising climate change awareness among 600 schools, 70,000 students and teachers, determine the emission benchmark through basic calculation, and then implement emission reduction work in 50 Carbon Compliant Pioneer Schools. Use science, technology, innovation and other means to respond to “climate action” to accelerate environmental sustainability and promote the transition from green campuses to low-carbon and carbon-neutral campuses.
