In the first week of Dec.2014, staff from HPP Beijing Office and Kunming Office accompanied a filming team from Shanghai ‘Fong Film’ led by Ms.Zhang Jinghuang, CSR manager of Philips China, to come to Bannong Village central primary school in Ximeng County. The filming team lived in the village and interacted with the school teachers and students for 4 days.

The film team recorded the daily work of Mr. Yang Chunbo, project leader of the SimplyHealthy@Communities project (hereafter the project) and how he manages the pig farm and provides eggs and soybean milk to students every day. The film team also interviewed the headmaster and canteen supervisor of this primary school, to reflect the project progress from their point of view.

Ai Ma, a 6-grade poverty-stricken student’s daily life has been featured. This quiet boy lost his father last year and his mother is sick at home without capacity to work. As the only
boy at home, Ai Ma has to look after his mother at weekends. However, this little boy cannot do heavy housework such as repairing the house; what he can do is gathering firewood from nature and feeding 2 pigs – the only possession of his mother and him.

There are 6 poverty-stricken students like Ai Ma out of 216 students of this primary school. The school provides totally free service to them as special support while other students
need to bring their rice to the school from their home.

The SimplyHealthy@Communities project concentrates on interests cultivating of the students. In this remote area, most Wa and Lahu minority children don’t know how to express themselves confidently; thanks to the dancing clubs organized by this project, they gain confidence and their enthusiasm and personal charisma shows naturally when dancing their traditional dances. The project leader organized senior students to choreograph together and perform in the playground and every student shows full confidence; while junior students’ dancing has another flavor - although they are not yet capable of doing complex ethnic dances, they are nonetheless adorable dancers and very serious with learning the movements.

At the end of filming, the team interviewed some parents who sincerely expressed happiness and pride about the change that the project has brought to their kids. The kids are much healthier, more open and bright, and pay more attention to hygiene etc. And the continuous project training on reduction of smoking and alcohol has gradually influence on those parents.

After this on-site filming period, the team will finish post-production in 2015. Let us look forward to the full version of the SimplyHealthy@Communities project documentary!
