The annual “Winter Games” of Zhenkang POF successfully held

In August 2008, Humana People to People (HPP) opened the first Preschool of the Future (POF) in Taozizhai Village, Nansan Town, Zhenkang County. Untill the end of 2015, the POF Zhenkang project has covered Nansan Town, Mengdui Town, Mengbang Town, Junnong Town, Junzhai Township and Mangbing Town, a total of 31 natural villages in 6 townships, in which 33 classes are in operation, with 666 children.
The POF courses are designed according to children’s development characteristics in different periods. Each day, there are 5 lessons include “Use your brain”, “Use your body”, “Use your hands”, “Numbers and counting” and “Language”. Each week, there are 6 subjects including teacher’s story telling, singing, “Getting used to school”, experience and imagination, and art. Each month, there is a monthly subject, such as “Our Village” in March, “Health” in April, “Do Good Things” in May and “The Weather” in June.
Besides, there are four theme activities every year: “Sport Festival” brings children to join the sport match and games, “Go Outdoor and explore” brings children to meet new people and see new things, “Celebrate the Children’s Day” and “Spend One Day to Decorate and Beautify Our Preschool”. The Winter Games was one of the annual themes that year, in which children joined the sport matches and games. It was designed by teachers and approved by the Project Leader, and carried out by the relevant teacher and the local Parents Committee. The project also was responsible for purchasing the materials as needed, such as candies, prizes, props and so on.
On the sports meeting day, children came early to the preschool to help the teacher with the preparations. The teacher made a careful competition schedule and appointed the judges accordingly. The children’s parents and other children were invited to join the sports meet too, because the sports meet is not held only for the preschool but also for the whole village. The parents put aside the work temporarily and came to join with their kids. Therefore, parents spent more time with the children, which made the village livelier.
The Winter Games enriched children’s school life and villagers’ daily life. It enhanced the community’s cohesive force , and promoted parents’ understanding and acknowledging of the preschool. As for the teachers, it improved their organizational skills and confidence.
