Wulong Rural Micro Enterprise Development Project is funded by CITI Foundation and jointly implemented by Wulong County Poverty Alleviation and Development Office and HPP, in order to support the development of poor rural areas of Wulong County. The project is a two year project starting January 2014. The project budget was USD 200,000 for 2014 and USD 150,000 for 2015, of which direct investment into villagers’ “Community Development Funds” was USD 50,000. The project is implemented in 6 administrative villages, Haokou Townships, Wulong County, which covered 1140 households of 29 village groups. The project draws lessons from Chongqing Wanzhou Farmers’ Club model to increase farmers’ income through trainings and financial support, and aims at the goal of poverty alleviation.

On Jan. 9, 2016, “Citi-Wulong” Poverty Alleviation Project organized young community entrepreneurs and village cadres, - more than 40 people from Haokou Miao and Gelao Autonomous Township to have an exchange activity with Chongqing Qiuji Agricultural Development Limited Company, which is also called “Wu Nong Tuji”. They visited the indigenous chicken breeding farm on Baimashan Mountain. The aim of the visit was to provide for the villagers an opportunity to know the situation of the local chicken breeding, including the breeding technology, skills, breeding cost and sales and marketing, etc. The visits aimed to promote introducing and developing a new commercial production in Haokou. Finally then lay a foundation for income increase of local people.

During field visiting time, the villagers discussed and exchanged in details on the necessary production skills, market requirements and the cooperation model of “Company plus Co-operative plus Household”, which is being promoted by the company now. After visiting, the project team and attendees sat together again, and shared and summarized on the investigation.

It was said that the villagers showed great interest in breeding free-land chicken and the production chain cooperation model of “Company plus Co-operative plus Household”. They said they would summarize their own situation and expect to establish an initial cooperation relationship.

The writer was told that, “Since the local company is part of the chain, on the one hand, it guarantees us the breeding technology, on the other hand, it provides a selling market platform. This combination encourages us a lot, and at least we would never worry about the sales for the chicken we breed” according to several villagers attending.
