Dashitoulian POF was opened in September 2015. According to the local need, with China Merchants Charitable Foundation’s support (CMCF), Humana People to People (HPP) mended the vacant old primary schoolhouse as POF classrooms, and started to provide preschool education services to the children in Dashitoulian Village, giving children a head start on life and also helping mothers to improve their family income by reducing their child raising burden at home. But for lack of funds, the preschool classes roof’s maintenance had not been executed.

The schoolhouse which Dashitoulian POF is currently using was built in 1973, which is more than forty years ago. Now, the historical school building is not just a kindergarten schoolhouse, it is more like a common memory guarded by generations in the village. According to the community’s needs, Dashitoulian Administrative Village Committee, Parents Committee of POF and HPP project staff discussed together, and applied successfully for funding from “China Merchants-Happy Community” Rural Community Support Plan Fund for roof maintenance. It helps the whole community to keep the same school memory alive and makes the happy children reading sound fill the small village again.

CMCF’s poverty alleviation work aims at encouraging villagers to build self-organizing capacity to promote and integrate resources to solve problem and meet public benefit. The  total budget of this subproject is 50220 RMB, according to the funding requirements, , CMCF would sponsor 60% funding, and 40% funding would be sponsored  by HPP, Administrative Village Committee and POF Parents Committee together. After confirming the funding, a construction team immediately was formed by project staff, village committee, parents committee and proprieters. Based on the rules of “Quality First”and reasonable cost control, the roof was repaired smoothly in winter holiday.

After repairing, Kuang Jiashang the section chief of Longling County Poverty Alleviation and Development Office, Teacher Yang Xingrun, village committee leaders, POF teachers and HPP staff checked and approved the construction of the subproject together. The village committee leaders, parents committee members and Dashitoulian villagers expressed heartfelt thanks to China Merchants-Happy Community” Rural Community Support Plan Project. They appreciated CMCF for the support on hardware conditions’ improvement and their effort to create a better and safer learning environment for Dashitoulian children.
