The nutrition intervention program is part of our Healthy@Communities project in Ximeng County - a Philips sponsored integrated community development project which began its implementation at the end of 2011. The program aims at improving the nutritional conditions of children studying at Philips Hope School in Ximeng. Long term sustainability of the project is guaranteed through several streams of activities which makes the community self-sufficient in providing the raw materials for sustaining the nutrition intervention: the school operates a small pig farm to gain profit via pig raising, the money is then used to purchase eggs for the children; parents are supported to plant soy beans, harvested beans are given to teachers to make soy milk for the children.  Additionally, the project organizes students and parents to attend capacity building trainings so that they have heightened awareness of nutrition and health. Regular community clean-up actions further strengthen the bonds of determination within the village to create a cleaner and healthier environment for everyone.

At the end of 2013,  health check results showed: percentage of students with mild anaemia(Haemoglobin<120g/l) dropped from 40.3% (2012) to 5.39%. It is a great achievement considering that the baseline survey in 2011 before the nutrition intervention showed 80% of students were anaemic.
